Camp Mitigwa Reunion

Ever wonder what happened to all those people you knew at Camp? Did they become captains of industry? Senators and governors? Inmates at Mel Brooks' Psycho-Neurotic Institute for the Very Very Nervous? Dental floss ranchers?

We wondered.

And so it was spoken aloud: How about a Camp Mitigwa reunion?

How about a chance to return to Rangeley and re-live those fabulous days and glorious nights spent on Dodge Pond, not to mention on the Appalachian Trail, as well as on lakes and rivers all over Maine?

And it came to pass. Here are the plans.

When: Thursday August 17th through Monday the 21st, 2017. Come for all five days, or just for a night, or as long as you want.

Where: Rangeley, Maine. The headquarters for the reunion will be the Rangeley Inn. Travis Ferland, the owner of the Rangeley Inn, has given us a blanket 20% discount on rooms at the Inn for folks who wish to stay five or more nights. You can stay either in the Inn or in one of the pond-side motel units. See Rangeley Inn Rates for more information on the Rangeley Inn special reunion deal, and be sure to make reservations before May 31, 2017 to get the special rates. Of course, there are also numerous other opportunities for vacation home rentals, bed and breakfast deals, campsites, and motels. (See below.)

Who: Campers and staff who worked for or attended Camp Mitigwa and/or the Arlington Outdoor Education Program at Camp Mitigwa from 1919 until 1972.

Of course, bring along your partner and family if you like. They might enjoy meeting some other crazy people, and will certainly enjoy Rangeley.

Planned Events: We are trying to keep things simple. We're going to see who shows up, and when, and take it from there. We will certainly make a foray to the location of the old camp on Dodge Pond. Orgonon (the Wilhelm Reich Museum) is worth a visit. Smalls Falls beckons. The Rangeley Inn has a great covered outdoor barbecue area that we can use. It will be summertime in Rangeley, so the place will be hopping, and we plan to join in.

We will provide a place to get together and let things take their course. Given the personalities of so many erstwhile campers and staff, we're pretty sure folks will be comfortable taking the bull by the horns and making things happen.

Where We Meet: Daily at the Rangeley Inn Pub at 5 PM. The pub has great food and drink. Look for the table with the 4 by 6 inch outrageously garish Camp Mitigwa sign. Depending on how many folks show up, we will have the flexibility to move to one of the function rooms.

To Register: Book a room at the inn or somewhere (see below) and let our misguided coordinator (Ken Arnold says he has some embarrassing pictures of him, which explains his involvement) Colin Grant know that you are coming, or are considering joining the crowd. Contact Colin at colin@cupsuptic.org. He will post the names (with your permission) and email addresses (with your permission) of those who tell us they plan to attend.

Please note that your registration/commitment is no big deal. If it turns out you can't make it, no one will hunt you down and cause serious bodily injury or anything.

What to Bring: Yourself, any Mitigwa memorabilia (pictures, uniforms, scars, etc.) to share.

How You Can Help:
  1. PLEASE!!! Spread the word! Tell your old Mitigwa friends about the reunion. Help us out even if you cannot attend. We are starting out with very few contacts, and we need your heolp to find people.
  2. If you have contact information for Mitigwa folks, send all contact information to Colin Grant at colin@cupsuptic.org, who will send out invitations to such people. He promises not to sell any information to marketing agencies (unless he gets really really good money for such information).
Who Is Coming So Far: See Who Is Attending So Far.
